Between 27 July and 10 August, on 2 Mega-DreamTrips, more than 500 generous volunteers contributed more than 1,500 hours to transform the K-12 Scholarship School at the City of Joy into a fresh, inviting environment through maintenance, painting and gardening!

Meet Donny Benavidez, a veteran optician, Dallas DJ, skateboarding enthusiast—and DreamTrips host. When not mixing beats as a DJ, you’ll probably find him behind his camera, taking photos of DreamTrippers enjoying DreamTrips across the globe.
Donny says his love for travel began at the age of 17 when he visited Germany for the first time. Since then, he has explored Europe and Latin America. “Having a certain element of spontaneity and ‘go-with-the-flow’ has already created some awesome memories,” he says. “I like to get together with old friends or make new friends, people who can show me an authentic part of a city or culture.”
And since he became a host in May, DreamTrips has taken him from Puerto Vallarta to Orlando, Jamaica, Cancun and the Eastern Caribbean, helping him to realize his dream of traveling around the world. He says one of his favorite DreamTrips memories so far was when he cruised to the Caicos Islands with a group of timid travelers.
“I like to take photos of DreamTrippers to help document our trips, and I was snapping away when I noticed a nervous look on 2 people in the group,” he says. “When I asked if everything was OK, they informed me they didn’t know how to swim! And although they were slightly nervous, they decided to go through with it. I got to watch them overcome their fear of water, let loose and enjoy something they’d never done before! I’ll never forget that experience. It really let me know that I have the opportunity to travel with great people.”
